Do You Have the Temperament to Test Video Games

Some people love to play games and believe that they would like to test video games. There are those that put in
40 or more hours at work, come home, and immediately jump onto a game system in order to release some of the
stress out of their day. Gaming can take you out of the normal, everyday world and into a fantasy world where you
can be anything you want. Because of this, many people believe that they have what it takes to test video games for
a living. But do you really have what it takes?

Getting the Job

The first thing you have to have in order to test video games is patience. Lots and lots of patience. You need to
have patience because finding a company that wants to hire you to test video games is not an easy job. Whenever
you break into a new business for the first time, it’s always hard to get started. It’s especially hard, however, in the
video game industry, because so many people believe that they have what it takes to test video games. They
imagine that they’ll be sitting in a comfortable chair all day, playing games much like they do at home.

You also need to have patience in order to deal with the many glitches that can occur when you’re testing a video
game. When you purchase a game in the store, the glitches are generally all worked out. You don’t have to worry
that your game won’t save right, or that a weapon won’t work correctly. When you test video games, these things
happen. After all, you’re the one that is supposed to make sure that the game works correctly, so you may find
yourself starting over, and over again, until the computer programmers get all the glitches out.

During the Job

The next thing you have to be in order to test video games is tenacious. When you are playing a video game at
home and get stuck, you can always ask a friend for help or go online in order to solve the problematic puzzle that
you’re at. When you test video games, however, you are on your own! One of the reasons for testing the game is to
make sure that the game is playable and that those that purchase it won’t get so annoyed with it that they’ll never
buy from the company again.

You also have to have the ability to adapt. If you are stuck in your ways and want to do things only one way, you will
not make a very good video game tester. In order to test video games, you need to be able to adapt and change as
the curves are thrown at you.

Being a video game tester is not necessarily the easiest job in the world, but if you love video games, and have
some of the personality that has been described, you might have what it takes to test video games!
