Three Reasons a Person should not Get Paid To Play Games

Are you a gamer who wants to get paid to play games? Do you love nothing more than sitting in front of your
Playstation, Xbox, Gamecube, or Wii and escaping from the world for a few hours? Who doesn’t? The problem
comes when people believe that they have what it takes to be a video game tester simply because they enjoy
playing game. Testing video games is difficult work, and isn’t meant for everyone. There are a number of reasons
why certain people shouldn’t get paid to play games.

1. “It’s Just For Fun”

Some people believe that a video game tester does nothing but sit around all day playing games and having fun. In
reality, a video game tester has a difficult job! Testers are the ones that make sure that the games work correctly,
and flawlessly, and that they are playable and beatable. They have to be able to communicate to the technicians
and programmers in a way that is understandable for both parties, and they need to keep careful notes of what
works and what doesn’t in the game they are testing. The job can keep you in front of a screen for anywhere from
eight to twelve hours at a time, and while playing every once in awhile for eight to twelve hours is enjoyable, playing
that much every day is often not.

2. It Takes A Long Time To Get Established

If you believe that you can simply contact a game making company and automatically get paid to play games, you’ll
be disappointed.  Most people who are video game testers had to work their way into the company for a long time
before they started getting paid to play video games. In order to break into the business, you often have to be
willing to test video games for free in your spare time in order to gain the experience and connections that are
necessary to get the first paying job.

3. It Takes The Fun Out Of Gaming

Most people turn on the power and pick up a controller in order to escape from the stress and annoyances of the
real world. For a few hours you can become an elf fighting to save the princess, or a star fighter trying to destroy a
huge space station. Once you get paid to play games, the games themselves become your stress! Never again can
you pick up a controller or pop in a game for the simple fun of it, especially since you’ve been playing games for at
least 40 hours as part of your job. The mystery of the games is completely gone, and the relaxation and enjoyment
that you used to get out of the games will no longer be there.

There are a number of good reasons that people should not enter into the video game testing industry. There are
also, however, a number of reasons that one should! If you love and are interested in all of gaming, from the
programming to the script writing and beyond, you might have what it takes to get paid to play games!
